What Is College Success?

Definition of College Success: There is no precise definition of college success, and there are no objective standards by which to quantify college success. Because it has to do with achieving predetermined objectives or Targets, parties concerned define what constitutes success in college.

Setting objectives that can be monitored and compared to in order to assess progress is necessary for anything or someone to be successful. Graduating from college may be seen as a sign of life achievement, and completing two years of college and receiving your diploma can be perceived as the accomplishment of a goal. Some students define college success as graduating from college with high marks; after the objectives are achieved, the student may view himself as successful. Others may see college success as more than just getting excellent marks, but the information and experience obtained while studying counts as legitimate college experience. Getting excellent marks is neither the ultimate aim of college or the greatest method to describe personal success while in college. Graduating from college with good grades is not the whole definition of college success, but it is a component of the bigger picture (College Success 2015).

Success: What Is It? What exactly does success entail? Success is described as “the good or prosperous ending of efforts or undertakings, the attainment of one’s aims” in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

The meaning of Success is relative and differs from person to person. We all come from different backgrounds, were raised in various civilizations, encountered various difficult circumstances, and have varied goals in life. As a result, success has a personal definition. My definition of success is living a meaningful life to the fullest, positively influencing others’ lives, and doing my part to promote social and economic advancement in my circle of influence.

techniques for success

Since I am accountable for my achievement, I am driven to do the things below to make sure my life is successful and fulfilling. I have a well-defined plan for achieving my objectives. I am a returning student with a clear idea of what I want to do. Since I work from home and am a Microsoft Certified Technician (MCT) and A+ Certified, I can easily fit a daily reading program into my schedule. I also have a strong goal of becoming a cybersecurity professional.

To effectively organize my time, I created a weekly study calendar to make sure all assignments were posted in the discussion forum before the due date, allowing me to learn from my peers and get helpful criticism in order to do better in the course.

Adopt a cycle of learning Prepare, Take In, Record, and Review: It is an ongoing cycle that moves progressively from stage 1 to stage 4, then back to stage 1, making it a never-ending learning process. And in order to succeed as a returning student at an online institution, I shall follow the cycle of academic learning.

  • Get ready: I’ll review the Moodle course prerequisites, download all the suggested readings, journals, and resources, and set up the necessary software for my computer science classes.
  • Understand: Because I will be completing most of the reading on my own and do not have the luxury of listening to an instructor lecture or teach, I must learn how to comprehend and absorb all of the new knowledge from the suggested textbook and other resources.
  • Capture: It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to take notes while you read. Each week, I intend to do just that. Your ability to learn is enhanced by good note-taking techniques.
  • Review: I make sure I fully grasp the information by going through the conversation from the discussion forum, my own notes, the suggested book, etc.

My last technique is to encourage social engagement among my classmates via collaborative learning. When students share what they’ve learned with peers, they reawaken, solidify, and reinforce memories that are beginning to fade. This approach promotes active learning while also improving retention (Sekeres et al., 2016).

How I’ll handle the assignments for my classes

I’m new to the new American educational system, and my worries are with regard to the weekly tasks in the areas of my writing abilities, lack of subject-matter knowledge, and inability to come up with enough points. My organizing abilities while writing and the problem of plagiarism are both very important to me. The only thing that worries me about my writing abilities is that I have adequate self-control to manage my time.

My enrollment at University of the People (UoPeople) has given me access to possibilities I never knew were possible. I expect to succeed in all of my classes, obtain useful experience, and develop social connections following my time at UoPeople.
